Gilbert is located in the East Valley portion of the Greater Phoenix area. It is bordered by Mesa, Chandler, and Queen Creek, Arizona and is near its East Valley neighbors of Tempe and Apache Junction which are also suburbs of Phoenix and Scottsdale.

The entire area is served by several freeways and Interstates making it easy to commute, but traffic can get busy during during mornings and afternoons during work commute periods.

The East Valley was once considered very rural but the area has been among the fastest-growing in the US and today the sister-cities has grown to a point that one cannot visually tell distinct borders. Gilbert is considered more rural than its neighbors and is known as a quiet suburban town that is rated as one of the safest in America.

Shopping and restaurants abound in the area within a 30-minute drive in any direction. The largest shopping mall, Chandler Fashion Center is in Chandler although Gilbert has nice shopping venues. You won't go hungry in Gilbert AZ. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of restaurants combined in Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa and Tempe. From hole-in-the-wall favorites to family-friendly chains to upscale dining.

Tempe is home to Arizona State University and its famous "Mill Avenue" and is abundant in both restaurants and nightlife. The area shares its many attractions including the nearby boating lakes of Saguaro Lake and Canyon Lake. What's nice about Gilbert, Arizona is its small town atmosphere but it is still close to the amenities and cultural venues of Phoenix, the country's fifth largest city.
